The Day-Night Cycle in PEAK lasts 10 minutes of real time. The day begins at 05:00 (5 AM, game time) and ends at 21:00 (9 PM). One hour in-game is equivalent to 25 seconds of real time, which gives the duration of a day of 400 seconds or ~6.67 minutes. The expedition starts at 09:00 (9 AM).
The Day-Night Cycle controls the direction and intensity of the sun. It also whether the Mesa's hot sun affects the players and whether the night on Ascent 5 and higher will inflict 
Cold (~100 total).
