Island

The Island is the main world of PEAK (not including the Airport) in which players must navigate. The island consists of six biomes and its map refreshes daily at 17:00 UTC with a different landscape experience each time. The biome list will also change with the second and third biomes both having two possible options.

The pool of available maps is predetermined and consists of 14 different randomly generated[1] maps (as of 1.28.a). These random maps are pre-generated by the developers and released alongside updates and patches. As a result, the usual daily map rotation will typically reset to a new island map and new map pool list when a game update is released. Any active player sessions will not be affected by a change to the island map rotation, and should continue as normal with the map that was started. However, all subsequent sessions after a map reset will instead use the new daily map.

As of 1.40.a there are eight biomes in the game with only six being used per map:

  1. Shore
  2. Tropics or Roots
  3. Alpine or Mesa
  4. Caldera
  5. The Kiln
  6. The Peak

Notes

Trivia

  • The developers have claimed they do not check whether a given mountain is climbable or not.[2]
  • Map generation requires the use of the RTX technology to bake the lightmaps used by the game for lighting and certain mechanics, such as the Alpine's blizzards.
  • While PEAK uses meters for its in-game distance measurement, it should not be confused with meters used in Unity, the game engine in which the game was developed. For reference, a single meter in Unity is equal to 1.6 meters in PEAK which would make the Peak biome height of 1920m equal to 1200 Unity meters.
